Check Your Credit Report

report_checkGet a copy of your credit report. You can do this for free at Annual Credit Report.

Go over each item on your credit report to verify each debt is in your name. Sometimes debts are put onto reports that don’t belong to that person. When I ran my free credit report I found out I owned a home in Arizona! I’ve never been to Arizona. I was able to have it removed from my credit report but it took some effort. Several years later upon running my free credit report again, I found out I had purchased a pick-up truck! Getting that off my credit report involved a lot of work including filing a police report for fraudulent activity.

It is worth checking your credit report once a year to make sure everything on it is correct.

Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op distributes produce baskets, organic produce baskets, artisan bread and sandwich bread every other week. Bountiful Baskets is a group of volunteers that work together to provide the food at rock bottom prices. Like them on Facebook.

You go online to order and contribute for the produce and food you choose. Bountiful Baskets distributes every other week, on Saturday at 1:00 PM, here in Victoria. After you place your order you print your receipt and bring it with you on Saturday. You will also need to bring bags or containers to carry your items home. You can begin to order your basket on the Monday prior to ‘delivery’ Saturday.

Make sure you check out the FAQ’s at their site. A Bountiful Basket contains 50% vegetables and 50% fruit. The picture shows all the produce in 1 basket! You get a lot of food for your contribution of $15.

Steps to Home Ownership – 1 and 2

It’s fun to start looking at houses but before you can put in an offer you will want to have a pre-approval letter from your lender. So Step 1 is talking with your lender and finding out what you will qualify for or what amount the lender will loan you to buy a house. Getting your pre-approval letter will also inform you of the type of loan you qualify for and how much money you will need for your down payment.

Now we are ready for Step 2 and can start looking at houses in your pre-qualified price range. We will look at houses that meet your list of wants and needs but we’ll also recommend that we go outside the box a little bit so you’ll have a good idea of what’s available in your price range. We are very patient and will show you houses until you find the right one.

Burger Nation is located at 3112 N. Navarro. They make a great burger and you have lots of choices! You build your own burger: Step 1 choose your bun, step 2 select your patty (I get the turkey), step 3 add extras, step 4 select your cheese and step 5 select from a long list of free toppings. Take a look at their menu. You can order fresh cut fries, sweet potato chips, and/or onion rings. I’ve been told the beer is cold and a bargain during happy hour. Visit their Facebook page.

Ready to List Your House?

You’ve decided you are ready to sell your home. Before you put it on the market there are a few things you can do to create the best first impression for buyers.

  • Organize your closets and kitchen cabinets – crowded closets and cabinets mean not enough storage for buyers
  • Make your floors shine – replace broken tiles, get the carpets cleaned if needed
  • Clean your windows
  • Clean out your refrigerator (yes, buyers look in the fridge and cabinets and closets)
  • Dust and polish everything!
  • Make sure your home smells fresh - buyers are turned off by a smelly house
